Diplomatic Courier and Safi Address the Path for Afghanistan
WASHINGTON, DC: Following U.S. President Barack Obama's second inauguration, the Diplomatic Courier is pleased to feature "The Afghanistan Peace Process: Are We on the Right Path?," in Volume 7, Issue 1 of the magazine by Mariam Safi, Director of Strategic Studies Program at the Afghanistan Justice Organization.
"The future of the Afghan peace process remains ambiguous, to say the least. It lacks transparency and inclusivity, and when combined with an incoherent national foreign policy, regional dissidence, rising levels of violence, and shaky U.S.-Afghan relations, it has the potential to embed local pessimism and resistance," an excerpt from Safi's article.

"Mariam Safi's article critiques the setbacks and preconditions for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. A key priority for the U.S. government should be to cultivate the reasons Safi identifies for why insurgents leave the battle, including the wish to give your children a better future and war weariness," said Ana C. Rold, Editor-in-Chief, Diplomatic Courier.
The January/February edition of the Diplomatic Courier also includes articles on:
- "Reinvest in Partnership with the Muslim World," by Toni Verstandig, Chair of the Aspen Institute's Middle East Programs and Senior Vice President at the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace
