Larry Quinlan, Global Chief Information Officer of Deloitte, sat for an interview with the Diplomatic Courier at "Talent Mobility & the Future of Jobs: The World in 2050".

[Diplomatic Courier:] In your experience, what skill set is highest in demand and lowest in supply?

[Larry Quinlan:] That’s a challenging question. I think the skill set that’s highest in demand is leadership. It’s lowest in supply because, while some people might believe that leaders are born, we actually believe that leadership comes from experience—client experiences, people experiences, innovation experiences. But we think leadership comes from experiences that one has, working at Deloitte, prior to Deloitte, working with clients. We think it’s in shortest supply simply because it takes time to create leaders. Not that you can’t have young people who are leaders, of course you can, but ultimately that well rounded leader has seen a number of things, has experienced a number of things, and that’s what makes it in shortest supply.
