Ambassador Stuart Holliday, President & CEO of the Meridian International Center, sat for an interview with the Diplomatic Courier at "Talent Mobility & the Future of Jobs: The World in 2050".

[INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT]

[Diplomatic Courier:] What do you see as American’s greatest challenge with regard to access to talent? How does this compare to your observations while serving as U.S. Ambassador for Special Political Affairs at the UN in 2003-2005?

[Ambassador Holliday:] Well, America is a great country at reinventing itself. In the old days it would reinvent itself by allowing for new waves of migrants to come to the United States, drive the economy, as well as to create an opportunity where innovation could be fostered. So these are really the same ingredients but our society is more global. We’re in a more competitive environment, and that’s why it’s critically important for us to continue to attract people from other countries to come and grow our economy. I think we’ve been doing a better job at it, but there’s room for improvement.
