Diplomatic Courier to Launch "2011 Global Go-To Think Tank Index" with Dr. James G. McGann at the National Press Club

WASHINGTON, DC: The Diplomatic Courier is pleased to announce the forthcoming launch and publication of the "2011 Global Go-To Think Tank Index" with Dr. James G. McGann, International Relations Program, University of Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, 18 January 2012 at 8:30 a.m. in the First Amendment Lounge of the National Press Club. The Index will be also presented later that day at the United Nations University in New York City.

"The Diplomatic Courier is pleased to publish the 2011 rankings in its January edition focusing on food, energy, and water security in a world of seven billion," said Ana C. Rold, Editor-in-Chief of the Diplomatic Courier. "The rise of think tanks in G20 and BRICS countries is a direct link to the exponential growth of civil society in emerging powers."

"The value of the Index lies in its ability to highlight the important contributions that think tanks make to governments and civil societies around the world, especially in traditionally underrepresented regions such as Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East," emphasizes Dr. McGann.

This annual rankings report is the result of comprehensive research by Dr. McGann and is generated by means of a three stage process in which an international panel of peers and experts, including over 1500 policymakers, journalists, parliamentarians, public and private donors, and think tank executives and scholars from 120 countries, provide nominations and rankings of think tanks in each category.

The "2011 Global Go-To Think Tank Index" identifies influential organizations from more than 182 countries in all regions of the world, further classifying them according to: geographic location, budgets under $5M USD, and new think tanks among other divisions. The Diplomatic Courier's January/February 2012 edition (Volume 6, Issue 1) "Preparing for the World in 2050" features an article by Dr. McGann discussing the rankings, especially the rise of think tanks in the G20 and BRICS over the past year. In addition to the Think Tank Index, other featured articles and authors include: "Feeding a Growing World," by Dan Glickman; "The 7 Billion Belly Ache," by Hanna Trudo; and interviews with Dr. Joseph Nye of Harvard University and Dr. Hussein Hassouna, Ambassador of the Arab League to the U.S.

To RSVP to attend the launch of the Think Tank Index, request an interview, or to receive additional information, contact press@diplomaticourier.org. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. and the official program will follow at 8:30 a.m. with brief remarks by Mrs. Rold and Dr. McGann. Space is limited and RSVPs will be accepted in the order in which they are received.

The Diplomatic Courier will launch a special iPad app on iTunes with this year's complete Index.
