While Ukraine's upheaval and ouster of President Yanukovych has been celebrated in the West, Russia is seething. “Strictly speaking, there is nobody to speak with over there. The legitimacy of a whole range of organs of power working there raises substantial doubts,” Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said today, Russian state news agency RIA-Novosti reported. He also called into question the legitimacy of the political transition, and some Russian leaders have called the process "dicatorial". A new presidential election is scheduled for May 25th.

After recent protests in Venezuela left 10 dead, President Nicolás Maduro called for a national dialogue of all regional and opposition governors, as well as high-level dialogues between his country and the United States, whom he blames for spearheading "a campaign to demonise, to isolate, the Bolivarian revolution" and the legacy of the late Hugo Chavez. Meanwhile, Maduro's government has been working to block images of the unrest on Twitter, even threatening to ban CNN for suggesting that unrest is affecting his country. "All 24 hours their programming is about war. They want to show the world that there is a civil war in Venezuela, when the people here are working, studying and helping their country,” he said in a video being shared across the internet.
